Job
Staff Scientist
Organization
Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Bethesda, MD and surrounding area
The SDG conducts both basic and translational research into a group of hereditary childhood neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs), called neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs), commonly known as Batten disease. Special emphasis in our research is to identify and characterize PPT1-mimetic small molecules that can ameliorate pathogenesis of CLN1disease.
About the position
The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Staff Scientist to join the Section on Developmental Genetics, Division of Translational Medicine. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in biochemistry, posttranslational lipid modification of proteins (e.g. S-palmitoylation), cellular and molecular neurobiology including expertise in working with transgenic animals, confocal imaging techniques, cell model systems for studies on signaling and immunohistochemistry. A strong interest in understanding the mechanism of pathogenesis in childhood neurodegenerative lysosomal storage diseases is a plus.

Staff Scientist I
The RNA Molecular Biology Laboratory (RMBL) studies the impact of RNA binding proteins (RBPs) on posttranscriptional gene regulation (PTGR). PTGR summarizes various processes acting upon coding and non-coding RNA and includes RNA maturation, ribonucleoprotein (RNP) assembly, transport, translation, and turnover. Members of the RMBL focus on elucidating the function and molecular mechanisms of RNA binding proteins involved in RNA transport, RNA stability and turnover, and RNA translation.
